Deer Management
Deer occur widely in Britain and are present in most woodland eco-systems. Of the six species present in the wild, red and roe are native whilst fallow, sika, muntjac and Chinese water deer are naturalised introductions. In general, all deer species are increasing both their range and their numbers.
Deer are capable of causing significant damage to forests and woodlands, mainly through browsing and bark stripping and can adversely affect biodiversity through over-grazing of ground flora and the supression of natural regeneration. They are, however, a natural component of woodland ecosystems, they can provide recreational sporting opportunities; venison is a high quality food and the presence of deer can enhance the experience of visitors to our forests.
We must manage both the numbers and distribution of deer to make sure that their impact on forest habitats is acceptable. It is mainly the impact of deer that we are concerned with, rather than the deer numbers themselves, but we also need to make sure that numbers are not allowed to build up to levels where there is an adverse effect on deer welfare.
Reducing the impact of deer is likely to be through a combination of individual tree protection, fencing and culling, with culling as the preferred method.
Paramite Pest Solutions has considerable experience in managing all species of wild British deer and has attained both level one and two of the Deer Stalking Certificate. These are nationally recognised qualifications and along with Trained Hunter status which Paramite Pest Solutions also holds goes towards ensuring that any deer culled by Paramite Pest Solutions are done so as humanely as possible and are processed so that they are fit to enter the human food chain.
Paramite Pest Solutions can, after a field visit to assess the problem and consulting with you to discuss your requirements, develop a management plan that would best suit your needs. This can include measures to keep deer out of the problem area; a cull plan to reduce the deer to a manageable/sustainable level or where their presence is desirable reduced their numbers to a point where the damage can be kept below a tolerated level. Where deer are a particular problem to commercial crops or forestry and cannot be tolerated a plan to eradicate the deer completely from an area can be implemented.
Whatever your deer problems Paramite Pest Solutions has the knowledge and experience to deal with it and if necessary can provide a team of qualified deerstalkers to accomplish the task.

Besides spreading disease, an overpopulation of deer create a number of other problems including, environmental and ecological impacts, public health and safety issues and property damage. Culling the herd to reduce the deer population is one method of addressing the problem.
